ASHWAUBENON – CBD oil helped Jason and Kayla Tokarczyk with their health issues, so they decided to help others out, too.
The Tokarczyks opened Happy Trails CBD, 2202 S. Ridge Road, Ashwaubenon, on Jan. 25. It’s their second location in northeastern Wisconsin, the first opened in Kaukauna in June, as they embrace the growing popularity of cannabinoid oils derived from industrial hemp to treat a variety of conditions.
Advocates of holistic and natural healing remedies say CBD helps reduce inflammation, can help minimize seizures and spasms, and can serve as an effective antidepressant. Consumers use it for conditions including chronic pain, cancer, anxiety and diabetes.

It does not cure any conditions or maladies, but scientists continue to study the chemical compounds to gauge impact on a variety of health problems.
The lack of research showing CBD oil’s efficacy and the variety of products out there can leave a lot of people unsure about what to buy and why. That’s where Happy Trails comes in. Store manager Alex Kropp said the staff is happy to spend time educating customers about considerable details about CBD oil.
“People walk in and tell us, ‘I heard this works. Tell me about it.’ We strive to educate our customers so they find something that best suits their ailments,” Kropp said. “Our biggest reward is having customers come back because it helped them.”
Happy Trails carries more than just CBD oil. The shelves and display cases are lined with bath bombs, topical creams, gummies, crumbled CBD for vape pens, transdermal pain patches, coffee, honey, tea, and even pet treats.
But there are a few common questions and concerns Kropp and the Tokarczyks can answer before you even decide to walk in their shop or any of the other health food stores and head shops that now carry CBD products. Here’s a look at three:

Will it get you high?
Let’s just go ahead and get this out of the way now: CBD-infused products will not, we repeat, NOT get you high. In fact, that might be the only thing CBD does not do.
“There’s endless possibilities,” Kropp said. “We just hope people learn there’s an option that could help where a prescription didn’t. It’s a natural, more holistic approach to helping people.”
Is it legal in Wisconsin?
Yes, if the oil in question is derived from industrial hemp rather than plants with a high concentration of THC, the chemical that gets you “high.” Industrial hemp has a THC concentration of less than 0.3 percent.
You do have to be 18 to purchase any CBD products, though.
What can I ask to make sure it’s a good product?
Kropp said it’s good to ask whether the oil you want to buy is “full spectrum,” which means it contains all cannabinoid compounds found in industrial hemp. He said those really concerned can ask to review a shop’s certificates of analysis or third-party reports on the product’s content.
Happy Trails CBD opened on Ridge Road. Beyond CBD oil, it also has CBD infused cosmetics, gummies, pet treats, bath bombs, coffee and more.
